Hypnotherapy for Children
Hypnosisand EFT for children from 7 onwards
There are the everyday challenges that every child faces, adjusting to new situations, jealousy, school pressure, falling out with friends and the ups and downs of life. Most of the time, children are very adaptable and resilient and move on fairly easily.
However there are times when children can become anxious. lose confidence or feel overwhelmed and need some extra help. In these cases hypnosis can be very helpful and children normally respond well, needing only a session or two to feel better.
Common childhood problems treated:
Lack of confidence
I use a range of technique depending on the child:
The Blowaway Technique
Often children don't find it easy to express what's worrying them or they can simply feel confused about their emotions. The Blowaway Technique is a simple and gentle way of enabling children to let go of fears and worries by going on an imaginary journey and are able to release their problems privately. Parents are encouraged to join in too.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or Tapping
EFT involves gentle tapping on acupressure points on the hands, face and head and children can enjoy doing this as it can feel like a game, yet they are actually working on the body's energy system to release underlying anxiety. Once a child learns how to do this they can use it themselve in all sorts of situations: to help them feel more confident in a difficult school subject, to play sports better, to help themselves when upset etc. I sometime use a Magic Button Bear to help children tap through whatever worries they have. You can find out more about EFT here .
Children love stories and I often do simple hypnosis relaxation combined with telling a story to instill confidence in a child, making up a story about a character with similar problems to the child who finds the perfect solution. One little girl drew a picture based on a simple story I told her and felt confident about going to 'big school' for the first time.
